This copy of Footnotes is inscribed by Knowles on the dedication page to “Jill & Ingrid too” and also signed by the artist. It also bears Jill Johnston’s stamp in blue ink which reads “Write First. Then Live.” The late great Jill Johnston (1929-2010), a friend of Knowles’, was a critic, radical lesbian feminist and champion of the avant-garde. Ingrid Nyboe was Jill’s wife.
