John Cage at Seventy-Five [Library of Jill Johnston]

Fleming, Richard; William Duckworth; John Cage

$75.00

Very Good condition in black boards (generally flawless but for notations discussed below) in a VG minus DJ which shows stains/spotting to the inside & a bit to covers, chips to top of spine and edge-wear at other points. This copy is from the library of the late great Jill Johnston (1929-2010), colleague & acolyte of Cage, cultural, literary and dance critic, memoirist, radical lesbian feminist and champion of the avant-garde, and it bears her distinctive blue ink-stamp on front free endpaper which reads “Write first. then live.” J.J. Uncommonly, Johnston also wrote her name and date of acquisition on the same page at top. Sections of the books contain her notations, occasionally with brief notes but more often just underlining and arrows, on approximately 40 of the book’s 305 pages. In addition to writings on Cage this volume also contains Cage’s own “Anarchy” reprinted in its entirety.
